Featured Review by Travis Lamb

Since its dedication in 2003, the Dole Institute has served the KU community and the public at large by providing a forum for civil, bipartisan discourse. I am proud to work where the inspiration and beauty of the world’s largest stained-glass American Flag window and the foundational resources of The Robert and Elizabeth Dole Archives and Special Collections (one of the largest congressional archives in the nation) are not just accessible to me and my colleagues, but any interested, curious person not just in America, but the world.

Inspired by the life and leadership legacies of Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole and the enduring civic contributions of the Greatest Generation, we promote a new era of leadership that uses politics to bring people together through opportunities that emphasize bipartisan cooperation, public service, and civic education and engagement.

Senator Bob Dole believed in the power of individual agency, and he loved connecting with people to build towards a shared cause for the betterment of all. Our liberty, freedom, and aspirations for full participatory democracy depend on these essential human elements.

For as much of Kansas, American, and international history as we have and continue to curate here as Senator Dole counseled, “In America we take pride in the past, but we live for the future. To the young people who will come here for inspiration as well as information, may you never stop reaching for the stars – whatever the difficulties.”

Therefore, I rate the Dole Institute of Politics four stars; may the fifth come as we continue to work together for public good toward a more perfect union, one as he described, “in which we consciously and visibly strive to achieve, a society in which men can truly work together, live together, and learn together.”

Travis Lamb is the Program Development Officer at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics. In this role, he offers dynamic education programs such as in-person tours and workshops, virtual classes, and classroom outreach to K-12 schools, scout troops, families, and other community groups.
